Viagra's Unexpected Side Effect

by Danna Schneider

Viagra, the most popular and most well known impotence and male sexual enhancement drug on the market, followed only by Cialis and then Levitra, may have some unexpected, and albeit welcome, side effects.

Researchers are saying that not only does Viagra physiologically produce the effects it is meant to, that is to increase blood flow to the penis to help men get an erection, but it also may produce a more psychological effect as well, putting men "in the mood" mentally for intimacy, affection, and love. In other words, this may be the drug that is every woman's dream!

Although Viagra has been plagued with some negative press about side effects that are unwelcome (what "wonder drug" isn't), it still continues to be one of the best selling drugs ever, and almost immediately became a household name after it's patenting and launch to the public in 1996. Sildenafil, which is the drug's pharmaceutical name, gained almost instant notoriety, and was even featured in a commercial with former presidential candidate Bob Dole.

Viagra became the punchline of jokes on late night shows like Jay Leno and David Letterman, and was the subject of much excitement, and still is today, as an apparent cure for male impotence and other virility issues such as premature ejaculation. The drug started off in the lab as a test drug for patients with heart problems, specifically angina, which is marked by chest pain.

Although the drug did not have any significant impact on these patients, a noticed side effect of the drug was that it produce erections in many of it's subjects. And the rest is history, hence Viagra was born and became a best-selling drug for ten years and counting.

Now onto the unexpected side effect. Recently, it was discovered that not only did men experience increased erections from taking Viagra, and an improvement in their impotence symptoms and inability to maintain a full erection, but they also experienced more of a mental stimulation when it came to getting in the mood for love.

I'm sure Pfizer, the drug company that has put out Viagra, is beside themself with delight, as yet another benefit is realized from their already blockbuster drug.

The drug apparently increases the feelings associated with love and affection by boosting levels of a hormone that is associated with feelings of intimacy and closeness leading to sexual arousal. This hormone is called oxytocin, and you may have heard of it for another reason.

Oxytocin is a hormone which acts as a neurotransmitter to the brain, that occurs in both men and women, and is secreted when one feels "lovey dovey" and in the mood to snuggle with their partner.

In fact, pregnant women who are in their last trimester and ready to have their baby are encouraged to have sex, since the release of oxytocin, which occurs during orgasm and also during sexual arousal, is supposed to help bring on contractions and lead to a sooner birth at the end of a pregnancy.

The bottom line as it relates to the unexpected and pleasant side effect of Viagra for both the man and his partner, is that this stimulation of the part of the brain that produces oxytocin, definitely enhances the bonding experience of sex, and the feelings of security and closeness that is experienced between partners during sexual union.

This news is undoubtedly welcome to Viagra users, as well as to the maker of the drug, who probably didn't imagine that it would have anything other than a purely utility effect on the men that took it.

It also opens the door to other possible uses for the erectily dysfunction drug, but that has yet to be determined, as it is not yet clear how this release of oxytocin can help other bodily functions or be a part of some other type of therapeutic treatment. At any rate, it certainly is a nice additional benefit for men taking Viagra!

Alternatives to Viagra

by Mike Scantlebury

This article is aimed at women. Why? Because, of course, yes, there are alternatives to Viagra but most men wouldn't be interested in them. They don't want an alternative. They want the dream. They've bought the myth of the Magic Pill. Whatever the problem - whether it's rage, or lack of talent, or a physical infirmity - they assume there has to be something small and powdery that you can pop down your throat and solve the problem. Remember, Men are from Mars. No argument there. They want 'a solution'. Just like all the unemployed youth in deprived Inner City estates (or hedonistic airheads in well-paid jobs and empty, worth-nothing careers) they look for the answers in a chemical.

It won't work. In the first place, you can't cure old age. The years go by and your eyesight goes, your sense of smell gets worse, your memory fades. Why shouldn't your manly bits lose their vigour? Men can't accept that. They love the idea that you can pop a pill and feel as frisky and wanting as when you were in your 20's. How would they know? How can they see what's happening down there in their groin area when they're peering over mounds of excess flab and unwanted stomach? Having taken their bodies for granted for years, and filled them full of calorie-packed beer and processed meat, they expect it all to keep on functioning perfectly, delivering satisfaction in the bedroom, just like it always did.

Ask their wives. If women told it like it really is - which men would hate to hear - the truth is that most men are hopeless in the bedroom. Women know that, but they haven't the heart to tell their menfolk. When the men say proudly, 'Viagra has made me feel 10 years younger', most women will cringe and think, 'It wasn't that great ten years ago'. The fact is that the majority of men are selfish lovers. All they care about is their own satisfaction. They hear their wives moan with feigned pleasure and are fooled. Viagra can give them more of that, but they shouldn't be surprised if their partners look underwhelmed at their new, enthusiastic, pill-enhanced performance.

There are many alternatives to Viagra, including Bach Flower Remedies, Thought Field Therapy and Knipe Water Therapy. Unfortunately they all take time and effort and don't give that immediate feeling of 'I can carry on as I am' while the loving deficit is restored. For a start, here's an idea. Why not be more sexy? Stop doing what you do, men, spending all your time with your pals in pubs and clubs, enjoying sport and senseless chatter, and devote more time to your partners. Take your wives out to dinner, spend at least some of your attention in listening to what they have to say, and see the returns in the warm reception you might get later at night. The fact is that most women respond to an attentive lover, not someone who's idea of sex is ten minutes last thing on a Saturday night before sleep.

Here's another idea. Give up sex. Yes, admit your age and grow old gracefully. If you're a man in his 40s or 50s, then no, you aren't going to have the fire of your old self, twenty years earlier. Discuss it with your wife. Ask her if she really would miss doing what you did back then. Ah, but there's a catch. Yes, you have to talk to her. I said it again. You have to discuss your troubles and be prepared for a bit of the big 'E', emotion, something most men run from in terror. Instead, they want to go on the internet, look up the word Viagra, see the millions - yes, millions - of opportunities to find it, spend some money and get Magic Pills delivered to their door. Then, well, it's worth it, isn't it? It means you don't have to discuss things with anyone - those embarrassing, personal things - you can fix the problem, (or so you think), and go right on believing you will never grow old, nothing will change, and you won't have to adjust to anything. There's only one issue left. That it's a strictly one-sided view of things, and, like the man used to say, 'It takes two to tango'. Shouldn't you be discussing your dance steps with your partner? Or are you too ashamed to break the habit of a lifetime?

Cialis treats ED

by Stephen Robert

Impotence is a major health concern afflicting men of different ages. Medically termed as erectile dysfunction or in short - ED - impotence has long been a source of relationship troubles as well. First things first - ED is a medical term for failure of male organ to achieve and maintain erection sufficient for satisfactory sex for both partners.

ED is a male sexual disorder that is treatable but cannot be cured - meaning that permanent solution to ED is not possible at the moment but whenever the couple wishes to bond together, they have a quick-fix and effective solution and that too without significant side effects

The drugs like Cialis, Viagra and Apcalis are cost-effective substitutes for other expensive treatments of erectile dysfunction. It works by increasing the blood flow in the penis. This enables the patient to attain and sustain erection during a sexual stimulation. These pills should be taken at least 60 minutes before sexual intercourse. Cialis start showing its effects within 30 minutes of consumption and this effect lasts for as long as 36 hours.

The record success of Viagra prompted other pharmaceutical majors to invest more in developing new drugs for the treatment of ED. In 2003, Cialis became the third approved oral pill for the ED treatment. Developed by Eli Lilly and Company, Cialis (tadalafil) immediately climbed the sales charts with promising results. The clinical trials delivered better results than Viagra with Cialis staying in the body for more time than its counterpart and thereby ensuring greater moments of eternal bliss for both of you.

Generally the cause of erectile dysfunction is damage to nerves, arteries, smooth muscles, and fibrous tissues resulted due to diseases such as diabetes, kidney disease, multiple sclerosis, vascular problems, and neurological disease. Around 35-50 percent of men suffering from diabetes experience ED.

Lifestyle choices contribute to heart disease and vascular problems. Chronic alcoholism, smoking, and obesity too are possible causes of ED. Many times especially in radical prostate and bladder surgery for cancer, it has been observed nerves and arteries near the penis may get injured, causing ED. Any injury to the penis, spinal cord, prostate, bladder, and pelvis can also lead to ED.

Cialis is the only drug which is not only fast acting (works in 30 minutes) but is also know to be effective for as long as 36 hours, thus enabling you to choose the moment that is just right for you as well as your partner. You can take Cialis in the morning and be ready for the right moment during that day, evening or even during the next day. Millions of men have benefited from Cialis as it works effectively in mild, moderate or severe erectile dysfunction.

If you are looking for cheap thrills, cheap Cialis is certainly not for you! And before you buy Cialis, don't forget your doctor's prescription!

Guys, Cialis Is Really Necessary!

by Trevor Milton

All conversations that going around in the pharmaceutical market currently is centered on the erectile dysfunction pill Cialis and how the drug has evolved to be a suitable cure of male impotency.

But have you ever thought that why so many hues and cries are there over Cialis? Potential customers in the erectile dysfunction market are enthusiastically buying Cialis from the local pharmacy as well as through online Cialis stores and treating their impotency. This is perhaps due to the fact that after administration, Cialis remains in the system for a full 36 hours and like other erectile dysfunction pills, Cialis can be taken on a full as well as on an empty stomach.

But all these supplementary benefits shown by Cialis are not the principal attributes of the drug and there is something else to be disclosed in relation to the drug, something far more exemplary which is judged as the chief contribution of Cialis towards the treatment of male erectile dysfunction. Do You Really Know What Your ED Drug Does?

by Sangi Tons

Erectile dysfunction has for ages made men spend sleepless nights.... wait a moment; it has actually left no choice for many men other than sleeping in the nights. And keeping in mind the increased deformities that crop up in the male psyche as a result of inability to have a normal sex life, people from the earlier times tried to invent some kind of medication that could offer some sort of respite to such people.

There were some attempts at discovering some sort of medication that can be termed as herbal in the modern terms. These cures were made from the parts of the plants and herbs. Sometimes the parts of the animal body were also used to treat erectile dysfunction. But unfortunately the success rate of these drugs was very meager. Even after that all the ED cures that were discovered or invented were not completely satisfactory. Their effectiveness was always under a question mark.

It's only recently that effective ED drugs have been invented and as a result all the males have actually heaved a sigh of relief. Because, it has been proved that almost 90% of men go through erectile dysfunction, at some points of their lives. Hence even if a person is not going through ED there is no guarantee that he will not be liable to get the disease in the next phases of his life. So, the success of the oral erectile dysfunction drugs was like a lease of fresh air for the male breed as a whole.

It is altogether a different matter that the erectile dysfunction drugs are actually very expensive and are not accessible to a larger section of the people. It addition they are also frothed with a lot of side effects. Nevertheless these ED cures have been proved to be the most successful till date.

All of you must be familiar with the fact that Viagra was the first ED drug to be invented. After it two more ED drugs were invented and even they possess a good market share. Among these two one was Cialis and the other Levitra. They are offering quite tough competition to their famous precursor Viagra. All the ED drugs have some kind of specialty in them. The ED drug Levitra has got a very peculiar characteristic. In all the cases where Viagra have been unsuccessful, Levitra has been able to show results. Hence there is bound to be some kind of furore for the drug. Call it a co incidence or science but this capability of Levitra in showing results in the cases where Viagra failed has worked positively for the former. This piece of news generated a great publicity for the drug.

However there are people who dismiss the drug as ineffective in treating ED. But this question is very tricky. Firstly because it is not unnatural if Levitra doesn't show effects in a particular person. And secondly there is a misconception attached to all the ED drugs including Levitra. That is, people expect that the use of the ED drugs can cure their ED for good. But this is not the case. ED drugs like Levitra are meant to cure ED only momentarily. Hence the second reason is void and on its basis Levitra cannot be rejected as an inefficient ED drug. And if you are an ED patient then you must comply with the instructions of your doctor, if he has prescribed you to buy levitra you must order levitra only and no other drug. And if he tells you not to take any ED drug then please tag along his advice. Also if you buy levitra online, ensure that your online levitra pharmacy is genuine and not fake.

Why Do Some Men Not Get An Erection?

by John Roberts

Erectile dysfunction refers to the inability of a male to get and/or maintain an erection, which regularly leads to poor sex. This eventually causes more issues such as low self esteem, low confidence and even the avoidance from sexual situations.

What is the Cause of Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction is most often caused by a physical disorder, which in turn causes abnormal blood flow to the penis. When blood flow to the penis is obstructed, erection problems may arise. Some of the medical conditions that may cause erection problems include:

High cholesterol
Parkinson's disease
High blood pressure
Multiple Sclerosis
Atherosclerosis
Thyroid problems
There are also psychological issues that may cause a man to have erectile dysfunction such as:

Andropause
Anxiety
Depression
There is a chance of developing erectile dysfunction if a man has one or more of these problems. This can be very distressing for a man to deal with because of the increased burden it brings on top of whatever problems he is facing in his life. One thing a lot of men don't know is that there are many treatment methods available and erectile dysfunction usually can be treated with the right treatment.

How May I Cure Erectile Dysfunction?

Penile implants - In cases where oral medications haven't helped, then penile implants can help a man get an erection. There are a few variations of penile implants, ranging from a solitary splint like object to a more complicated pump and reservoir model. The latter is more comfortable because the penis is able to be flaccid when a man is not aroused.

Oral medications - This is probably one of the easiest and most effective ways to treat erection problems. A patient will be prescribed with pills after consulting a doctor. These pills have to be taken prior to sex, which allows them to have a harder and longer lasting erection. The common ones include Levitra and Viagra.

Penis injections - For some situations, penis injections are recommended. Men can apply the injections themselves and the majority of report that they are only a little bit painful. A needle will be inserted into the side of the penis and medication will be pumped in, which will help the man get an erection and maintain it from thirty minutes to a few hours.

It is important for men to understand that they don't have to suffer in silence. Out of embarrassment, many men resist consulting a doctor and would rather to deal with the issue alone. This drives a lot of men to try to obtain illegal erection pills on the internet, which could lead to cataclysmic health problems if he consumes a counterfeit product or too much of it.

Levitra Improves Erectile Function in Patients Taking High Blood Pressure Medications

by John Scott

One of the biggest fears men have when prescribed anti-hypertensive medications is the effect these drugs will have on their sexual performance. Recent studies revealed that Levitra can counter these effects. A person with hypertension or high blood pressure may now be able to treat their high blood pressure condition with multiple anti-hypertensive medications and still enjoy a healthy sex life. In this article I will touch the ground with the results of recent scientific research.

Levitra is one of three FDA approved oral phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors which are used to treat erectile dysfunction. The other two are Cialis and Viagra. PDE5 inhibitors relax narrowed or hardened penile arteries to the point where they will allow blood to enter the penis and create an erection in patients with ED.

E.D. or Erectile Dysfunction is a man's inability to obtain or maintain an erection and usually involves compromised penile arteries; arteries which have been narrowed and/or hardened most likely by the build up of cholesterol or plaque within the arterial walls. E.D. Can be caused one of several factors, which include poor eating habits, high cholesterol intake, smoking, stress, lack of exercise, high blood pressure conditions, etc...

One of the most common side effects associated with anti-hypertensive drugs is impotence.

High blood pressure medications and more in particular, those which contain either beta-blockers or diuretics have the effect of reducing a person's ability to obtain an erection.

For this reason, most men fear high blood pressure treatments. Fortunately, though recent studies reveal that sexual performance can be reestablished in men taking either one or multiple anti-hypertensive medications if the treatment also includes the use of vardenafil HCl (Levitra).

One Particular Study and its results

Recently, an extensive study relevant to the problem was performed in Germany. The study included 354 patients from 98 primary health care facilities in Germany. Apart from their high blood pressure conditions, all patients had been suffering from ED for at least 6 months. All participants were also taking either 1 or multiple anti-hypertensive medications including diuretics, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, etc... Alpha blockers were excluded.

In order to rule out psychological factors a portion of the participants received a placebo pill instead of Levitra. The rest of the participants received Levitra in 5 to 20 mg dosages. Participants were required to continue the treatment for a 12 week period.

All participants were required to keep a diary which included their answers to standardized questions concerning their particular ED issues. Eighty-three percent (83%) of patients taking the real Levitra claimed they were successfully able to have sexual intercourse with their partners. Only fifty-three percent of the participants taking the fake or placebo pill were able to do so. It made no difference whether the patient took either one or multiple anti-hypertensive pills simultaneously.

The fact that Levitra improved erectile function in patients taking multiple anti-hypertensive medications confirms the fact that it's possible to treat hypertension and at the same time prescribe an effective medication to treat ED. The study reveals that when a doctor treats patients with both high blood pressure and ED, combining Levitra with anti-hypertensive drugs will be beneficial 83 percent of the time.

Alternative Impotence Treatments for Older Men

by Simon Jones

Erectile dysfunction doesn't have to be a part of getting older. It's true that as you get older, you may need more stimulation (such as stroking and touching) to get an erection. You might also need more time between erections. But there's no reason why older men should not be able to get an erection and enjoy sex.

Erectile dysfunction is very common. Although it tends to be more common in the over 40-year-old age group, it can affect men of all ages. Studies have shown that:

- 52% of men at the age of 40 and 67% at the age of 70 are affected by minimal, moderate or complete ED.

The most common physical causes of old age erectile dysfunctions are:

- Alcohol, tobacco and drug use - Fatigue - Brain or spinal-cord injuries - Hypogonadism (which leads to lower testosterone levels) - Liver or kidney failure - Multiple sclerosis - Parkinson's disease - Radiation therapy to the testicles - Stroke - Some types of prostate or bladder surgery - High blood pressure - High blood sugar - Hardening of the arteries

There is also the possibility that your erectile problems are cause by some medicine you are using. In this case your physician may be able to change your medication.

Psychological issues that can lead to erectile dysfunction:

- Feeling nervous about sex, perhaps because of a bad experience or because of a previous episode of impotence - Feeling stressed, including stress from work or family situations - Being troubled by problems in your relationship with your sex partner - Feeling depressed - Feeling so self-conscious that you can't enjoy sex - Thinking that your partner is reacting negatively to you

If you decide to seek therapy, it will probably be most effective if your sex partner is included. Couples can learn new ways to please one another and to show affection. This can reduce anxiety about having erections.

Today you have the option of a host of new erectile dysfunction treatments, so seek help right away. You can start by talking to your doctor or your therapist or you can seek alternative treatments for penile impotence.

You can find a lot of educational and support web sites (like ours) on the Internet where you can learn a lot about your condition and what's causing it and you can talk and find support from people just like you. The Internet is the place to start your research into alternative treatments.

Unfortunately, it is also the place where you will find an amazing number of web sites chocked-full with unsupported claims for wonder cures that can treat your penile dysfunctions in 30 days or less. Herbal remedies for erectile dysfunctions have been around for a number of years and they will still be around for a long time.

Herbal remedies do not have to pass any clinical tests and the marketers can make any claims whatsoever. They do nothing more than to publish their opinions and their customers' opinions on the products they market.

Just make sure you won't be suckered into spending hundreds of dollars on worthless vitamins and plant extracts that you can buy at any drug store for a couple of bucks.

Today is the perfect day to start learning more about you and take control of your sex life. There is so much information floating around you and there are so many web sites that will offer advice on erectile dysfunction exercises, that there is no reason you have to put up with the embarrassment of yet again not being able to satisfy your partner and yourself. Erectile Dysfunction exercises do work. Men have employed homemade erectile dysfunction cures for ages and they do help men of all ages feel better about themselves and have a great sex life.

Exercising your penis might take a lot of effort on your part, but the results are truly incredible - amazing sex life! When you learn to take control of your body and actions, you'll definitely be a better lover. Are you ready to learn secret exercises that can help improve male impotence issues? Are ED Drugs the Right Answer For a Lasting Erectile Dysfunction?

by Helen Green

All of us are aware of the disease called erectile dysfunction. It is the disease that unables a man to have sex, simply because of the fact that the required organ doesn't get hot, hard and erect which it must as it has to enter the female sex organ. Hence erectile dysfunction is also a major hurdle in the way to have babies, because as long as the organ doesn't enter the female body, the woman can't conceive.

You must be wondering why I am babbling about the facts that everybody knows. It's because of the fact that the demon of erectile dysfunction picked up speed and started tormenting men all over the world. It became such a common disease that the scientists had to devote time to invent a way that could free mankind from the fear of this demon. And all their efforts bore fruit when they came out with a drug that proved to be very influential in treating erectile dysfunction. This drug was christened Viagra. And all the hysteria that it generated must not be news to all of you. It became so popular that today it is a house hold name.

Viagra was the much needed respite to the people who were troubled by erectile dysfunction, especially the richer lot. Because Viagra is an expensive drug which the poor can't even dream of having. Keeping the costs apart Viagra has been hailed as the perfect drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Viagra makes things easier by helping the penis to get erect within the required time. So every time an erectile dysfunction person wants sex all he is required to do is, pop in a Viagra pill.

However, it has been seen that people become dependant on Pfizer Viagra or for that matter any other erectile dysfunction drug that they are having. Now this can prove to be very dangerous because in many people erectile problem is only temporary but they use Viagra continuously they can develop Viagra dependency. They develop this feeling that they can't perform if they don't buy Viagra and use the same before having an intercourse. This dependency can become very dangerous for life. In case these people develop any other disease for example heart disease or diabetes there are serious risks of drug interactions. Because the drugs prescribed for heart ailments and diabetes very often contain elements that react with the ingredients that are present in Viagra. Especially an element called nitrate can very adversely react with Viagra and this type of a reaction can be fatal for the respective person. That is why Viagra is not recommended for long time use. For a lasting ED symptom ED drugs are not just enough. In order to do away with an erectile dysfunction that lasts for lifetime, the concerned person should take help from a doctor. And only after proper consultation should one purchase Viagra if at all it is advised.

Viagra vs. Cialis vs. Levitra: Differences and Similarities

by John Scott

Ready to combat ED (erectile dysfunction) but confused about which type of PDE-5 inhibitor to take? You're not the only one. Of the 3 FDA approved PDE-5 inhibitors, Viagra (sildenafil citrate) is definitely the most popular, but popularity alone shouldn't be a determining factor. The more recently approved Cialis (tadalafil) and Levitra (vardenafil hydrochloride) are also highly effective and very safe alternatives, although they may not be as popular yet. The problem for most people is actually deciding on the best alternative for them.

For starters, all three drugs are PDE-5 inhibitors so they help relax compromised or hardened penile arteries thus allowing more blood to flow into the penis and subsequently cause an erection. All three drugs also help keep high levels of cGMP within the penis. What's cGMP? It means cyclic guanosine monophosphate and it is an incredible substance which is naturally produced by the penile tissue in response to sexual stimulation and which aids vascular muscle relaxation. When high levels of cGMP are present, the penile arteries become relaxed and a natural and stiff erection will occur.

Unfortunately, in most men suffering from E.D., the PDE-5 enzyme neutralizes any available cGMP and without cGMP an erection will become flaccid or will not occur at all. That's where PDE-5 inhibitors such as Viagra, Cialis and Levitra come in. These drugs "inhibit" or block the unwanted PDE-5 and hence the very much wanted cGMP is allowed to remain within the penis after sexual stimulation occurs, thus aiding the erection process and keeping the penis erect. The question is, "Since all of these drugs have the same effect, why should I choose one over another?"

Let's compare the three PDE-5 inhibitors side by side to determine their differences:

Manufacturers:

Viagra: Pfizer

Cialis: Eli Lilly and ICOS

Levitra: GlaxoSmithKline and Bayer

Generic Name:

Viagra: Sildenafil Citrate

Cialis: tadalafil

Levitra: vardenafil hydrochloride

Dosages: Available and Recommended: Viagra: 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg tablets. Most patients begin using the 50 mg pill and either increase or decrease the dosage based on drug tolerance and / or effectiveness. Most healthcare practitioners recommend taking Viagra 1 hour prior to sexual activity but studies have shown that Viagra can actually be taken anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours before having sex.

Cialis: 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg tablets. It is recommended that you start out using 10 mg tablets and either increase or decrease the dosage depending on the results achieved. Traditionally, Cialis tablets can be taken anywhere from 30 minutes to 12 hours prior to sexual activity. Cialis soft tabs (which need not go through the digestion process) may be taken around 15 minutes prior to sexual activity.

Levitra: 2.5-mg, 5-mg, 10-mg, and 20-mg. Most people start out on the 10 mg pill and either work their way up or down depending on the results achieved. Levitra should be taken anywhere from 25 minutes to 1 hour prior to sexual activity, though some experts claim sex can be initiated in as early as 15 minutes.

How long does the effect last?

Viagra: approximately 4 hours

Cialis: approximately 17 to 36 hours (This is why they call Cialis the weekend pill.)

Levitra: approximately 5 hours

Year approved by the FDA:

Viagra: March 27, 1998

Cialis: November 1, 2003

Levitra: August 20, 2003

Cost of Pill

The cost for each of the 3 drugs is similar though Cialis tends to be a bit cheaper.

Success Rate

All three drugs work for approximately 70 percent of all men. Unfortunately, PDE-5 inhibitors won't work for everyone. Certain men may need to use alternative treatments such as vacuum pump devices or even penile implants.

Side Effects

All three drugs share most of the same side effects. Some men may experience headaches, flushing, back pain, runny noses, stomach aches, or even changes in vision (example: some Viagra studies have revealed that on rare occasions a man may begin seeing a bluish tinge but that should go away after the drug has been eliminated from the body). These are all common side effects and should not be reason to worry excessively.

None of the three PDE-5 inhibitors should be taken in combination with low blood pressure medication as this can potentially cause a person to have a heart attack. People with high blood pressure should also take PDE-5 inhibitors only after consulting with their doctor. In fact you should never self-prescribe yourself with any of the 3 PDE-5 inhibitors or any other prescription drug for that matter. Even if you are purchasing your PDE-5 inhibitors online you must still open up and tell the pharmacist everything he/she needs to know in order to properly formulate the correct treatment for you.

What the drug looks like:

Viagra: Small blue tablet with the word Pfizer engraved in the middle.

Cialis: Yellow tablet that is almond shaped and film coated.

Levitra: Orange tablet with a flame logo.

Notable Differences

Basically the only major difference between the three drugs is that Levitra begins working the fastest and will work regardless of what kind of food you have previously eaten. Viagra has the proven track record and has been trusted by over 30 million men and Cialis is the longest lasting. In the end though, the real choice is up to you.

Viagra vs.

Treating Erectile Dysfunction With Levitra

by Heather Colman

Levitra (generic name, vardenafil) is a prescription drug that is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) - which is an inability in men to achieve penile erection. This embarrassing situation of failing to maintain an erection until ejaculation is often referred to as impotence. Whatever its underlying physiological and psychological causes are, this condition was once a taboo subject. Thanks to recent heavy advertisements on drugs in this category, and much publicity of high-interest stories, taking remedial medications such as Levitra has become a more accepted norm.

Levitra is an FDA-approved oral medication that is available only by prescription. It works by relaxing your muscles to increase blood flow to the penis. The extra flow of blood will engorge the penis thus helping men get a harder erection. Moreover, Levitra works by preventing blood from flowing out of the penis. This helps you keep a longer-lasting erection. Generally, after the sexual activity ceases, the erection will go away. If the penis persists in staying erect for more than 4 hours, seek medical attention to avoid long-term injury.

Certain other medications can work to inhibit the elimination of enzymes that are stimulated by Levitra. People who are on medications such as erythromycin, ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), indinavir (Crixivan) and ritonavir (Norvir) are recommended to take lower dosages of Levitra. In addition, the time between each dosage may need to be extended. Normally a minimal initial dosage of 10 mg per day is recommended.

Common Levitra adverse drug reactions include nausea. Infrequent ADRs include abdominal pain, back pain, photosensitivity, abnormal vision, eye pain, facial oedema, hypertension, palpitation, tachycardia, arthralgia, myalgia, rash, itch, and priapism. (Rossi, 2004). The side effects reported in clinical trials include headache, flushing and stuffy or runny nose. In extremely rare cases, report to doctor immediately, if you have a sudden decrease or loss of vision, in one or both eyes.

However, what is special about Levitra is that people with high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, and even diabetics, have been found to be safely taking this medication. These health factors don't seem to impede these men from enjoying increased sexual activities after taking it. As with taking any new medications, it is always best to ask your doctor about drug interactions with your existing medications, and with your present medical conditions.

So before taking Levitra, talk to your doctor if you have or have had a history of heart disease such as irregular heart rhythms or angina, or congestive heart failure, or heart attacks. Make your doctor aware of any history of stroke, blood clots, blood pressure problems, kidney disease, liver disease, blood cell disorder, bleeding disorder, stomach ulcers, retinitis pigmentosa, penis deformity, or if, for health reasons, you cannot engage in sexual intercourse.

If any of those conditions apply to you, your physician may choose one of three options. First, he or she may decide to seek an alternative to Levitra all together. He or she may also reduce the regular dosage for your case, or continually observe and test your health during treatment.

Mens Sexual Dysfunction-"Inability To Perform"

by Mack M

Once it was "inability to perform". Then came "impotence", and now it's called "erectile dysfunction" (ED). Since effective medicines have become available, the numbers of men complaining of difficulty in getting and maintaining an erection have skyrocketed; 30 million men in the USA alone, according to recent estimates.

Along with many things, sex changes as we age. In healthy men the time it takes to get an erection and the time needed before the next erection get longer with the passing years. More direct stimulation of the penis is needed than in youth. By the time they are 40, as many as half all US men have difficulty getting an erection from time to time. While men have the advantage over women of being able to father children at any age, they may have difficulties with the sex act that become more frequent with age.

What are the causes of ED? Too often, increasing age is automatically - and incorrectly - blamed. Aging is accompanied by a gradual fall in testosterone (the male hormone) levels, but they remain in the normal range in 70% of older men. On the other hand, aging is associated with a number of conditions that impact significantly on sex - heart disease (heart attack, angina), stroke, diabetes, enlarged prostate, arthritis, Parkinson's disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are examples. A future article on this site will discuss the sexual problems related to chronic diseases in both men and women.

Medications are quite a common cause of ED. For instance, at one time almost any blood pressure-lowering drug was likely to cause it. However, newer drugs don't have this distressing side effect - your physician can easily find one that doesn't cause this problem. Surgery (e.g. prostatectomy, rectal cancer surgery) is another reason for lessened sex in age, but it is a more common problem for women than for men.

About 90% of cases of ED that aren't caused by medications or surgery are due to medical conditions, such as blood vessel disorders (atherosclerosis, or narrowing of the arteries) involving the pelvis and penis, a complication of diabetes that affects the pelvic nerves, and hormone disturbances (thyroid disorders, diabetes, and low testosterone levels). Unfortunately, medical disorders can themselves produce mental "inhibition" that affects sexual ability. In this way, men with heart disease may worry that sex will cause a heart attack, and they become impotent.

A psychological or emotional cause is directly responsible for about 10% of cases of ED. This is diagnosed largely by making sure that there aren't any other causes. If someone has occasional erections at night, or on waking in the morning, the chances are fairly good that he doesn't have ED due to a medical condition. There are ways to test for erections during sleep, if necessary.

To begin in tackling the problem, a healthy lifestyle should be followed - no smoking, only moderate drinking, a healthy diet and plenty of regular exercise. This in itself can help in dealing with ED, and may help make the sufferer more attractive to his partner.

Provided a psychological cause can been ruled out, and there are no serious medical problems that prevent their use, there are several prescription drugs available that provide a safe and often effective way of overcoming ED. Correctly used, there should be no side effects to speak of. Unfortunately, such medications are sometimes used by people who shouldn't take them - either the drug has been prescribed incorrectly, or bought "on the street" or over the Internet, without a full physical examination beforehand. This can lead to severe adverse reactions in vulnerable men.

Newer medications that promise to be equally effective or even better than existing ones are being developed, and will soon be available. Some of them have similar methods of action, while others have different mechanisms, offering hope to those men who don't respond to present medications.

The effectiveness of oral medication in treating ED has pushed devices such as vacuum pumps and penis implants into the background. Many men ask about alternatives to prescription drugs, such as herbs and food supplements.

Premature ejaculation- This can be a problem for some men - the sufferer has a very early orgasm before his partner has had time to become fully aroused. It occurs in men with emotional stress, those taking certain medications, or those with urinary problems.

Causes of Erectile Dysfunction

by Rishi Mishra

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is the inability of a man to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for his sexual needs or the needs of his partner. It's not uncommon for men to have erection problems every once in a while, but with erectile dysfunction, problems happen again and again.

Psychological causes of erectile dysfunction

Stress: Stress can be job-related, money-related, or the result of marital problems, among other factors.
Anxiety: Once a man experiences ED, he may become overly worried that the problem will happen again. This can lead to "performance anxiety", or a fear of sexual failure, and consistently cause ED.
Guilt: A man may feel guilty that he is not satisfying his partner.
Depression: A common cause of ED, depression affects a person physically and psychologically. Depression can cause ED even when a man is completely comfortable in sexual situations. Drugs used to treat depression may also cause ED.
Low self-esteem: This can be due to prior episodes of ED (thus a feeling of inadequacy) or can be the result of other issues unrelated to sexual performance.
Indifference: This may come lose interest in sex there are the case of age, and misunderstanding with your partner.

Medical causes of erectile dysfunction

Viagra and the facts

by sas_specialemails_1

Viagra is now by far the most recognizable brand name and for the drug sildenafil citrate. It is produced and marketed by the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, and is also sold under the name Ravatio and Caverta in certain locations throughout the world. Viagra is produced for one reason and one reason only, to treat erectile dysfunction, or as it's more commonly known, ED. It comes in the form of a blue pill in 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg dosages.

Although it is available only by way of a doctor's prescription, you can actually buy Viagra on the Internet if you so choose. Viagra belongs to a group of drug called phosphodiesterase inhibitors. Sidenafil citrate attaches to the enzyme called phosphodiesterase-5 and disable most of it, it further helps the arteries in the penis dilate fully, resulting more blood flow to the penis making it erect.

Viagra should be taken half or an hour before sexual activity and needs a little stimulation. Its dose varies from person to person but the usually recommended daily dose is 50mg. Its effectiveness remains in the body up to four hours and you should not take more than a single dose per day. Only the guys who are hale and hearty and are not in the grip of male sexual disorders can be hopeful of sound health via sexual fulfillment.

Men generally suffer from sexual disorders like inhibited sexual desire, infertility and more so by the most dreaded erectile dysfunction. If on account of specific reasons you have fallen in the grip of erectile dysfunction and have lost your virility, you can get in touch with your doctor and try to get back your potency by administering Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs in accordance with his instructions. You should order Viagra and administer the drug only if it has been prescribed to you by a doctor.

After availing Viagra prescription from an authentic physician, you can even buy Viagra online. The best prices so far I know found on: http://medpro.myblog.de/ and another fine farmaceuptical supplier at http://20six.nl/c976sdc But you can do your own research. Learning To Identify And Treat Erectile Dysfunction

Submitted By: Tom Whitmall

Erectile dysfunction(ED), or impotence, is a sexual dysfunction in which one is unable to maintain an erection of the penis. Many causes can go into this dysfunction, and luckily, most are treatable.

While there are no formal tests to diagnose ED, some blood tests can be done to rule out other factors such as diabetes. This is often directly related to poor health, dietary habits, obesity, and more serious things like cardiovascular disease or coronary disease. Interestingly, impotence can be physiological or psychological. It is more common that you are suffering from a psychogenic cause if you lose night or morning time erections, but maintain erections at other times.

If you drink alcohol or are a cyclist, you are at further ever further risk. Luckily, there is treatment available. Testosterone can be used if you are experiencing hormonal deficiency. Treatments such as this do not permanently fix the problem - they are often temporary fixes. Other injected, suppository, or orally taken drugs can do you good- most of which boost the Nitrous Oxide levels that dilate blood vessels. Nowadays a number herbal erectile dysfunction pills are also available that are known to be effective in combating impotence. If these options fail, then one can resort to an external vacuum specially made for impotence victims.

While most kinds of treatments are uncontroversial and safe, others aren't so. Mainly experimental drugs like ginseng have shown that its benefits could be little more than a placebo effect. Things such as Enzyte have even had lawsuits, from people who say the drug is potentially dangerous and does not work like advertisements suggest. Your doctor will know more about the right treatment for you, or if you even have erectile dysfunction.

In ED history, Dr. John Brinkley started up an ED cure in the 1920's and 1930's. He used odd methods such as goat gland implants, or certain injections. His cures were considered to be both unsafe and rather unusual. He had his radio station banned, and his medical license revoked as a result. Although many might not see this event as significant, it was one of the first documented cases of ED cures. They may not have been conventional, but it was a step in the right direction for the dysfunction.

Impotence can be hard to live with, especially for a loving spouse. If you suspect you may have ED, then you should talk to your doctor immediately- as there can be some serious causes. Usually oral ED treatments work for most men- although they are temporary. Coping with ED can be hard for many men, but it has been a long going phenomenon, and often we have no choice as to what nature has in store for us.

Causes And Risk Factors Of Erectile Dysfunction

Submitted By: Tom Whitmall

When it comes to determining the causes and risk factors of erectile dysfunction, commonly referred to as impotence, it is important to understand that there are often both physical and non-physical causes. It should also be stated that many men will encounter the condition at some point throughout their life and this may be normal and not a cause to seek a cure for erectile dysfunction. However, if dysfunction seems to be prolonged, then you should seek the advice of your health care professional to determine the cause. Some of the most common causes and risk factors that are attributed to erectile dysfunction are listed below.

The first area to look at when determining the cause of erectile dysfunction is substance abuse. Substance abuse can lead to impotence and there are a number of drugs that will increase a man's risk of becoming impotent.

Illegal drugs such as cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and steroids can all lead to dysfunction. Legal substances such as tobacco (cigarette smoking) and alcohol can be a direct cause of dysfunction as well. Many people are often surprised to realize that smoking is directly linked to the condition, but the effects of smoking can be devastating to a man's sexual health. The first step to address when reducing the risk factors of developing erectile dysfunction is to ensure that you have a healthy lifestyle free from substance abuse, smoking, and excessive use of alcohol. You should also ensure that your lifestyle is energetic and has plenty of physical activities to ensure the best possible health.

The next area to look at when determining the cause and risk factors of erectile dysfunction is the emotional or psychological area. Factors such as stress, anxiety, depression, and negative feelings towards the sexual partner may contribute to erectile dysfunction. Communication is a great tool to ensure that your relationship with your partner remains healthy and vibrant. Sometimes it may be necessary to seek counseling or the help of a therapist if anxiety or stress is determined to be the cause of the dysfunction.

Illegal substances don't only cause dysfunction. In fact, another common cause of erectile dysfunction is prescription medication. There are a number of commonly prescribed medications that contribute to dysfunction. Some of these include:

· Diphenhydramine
· Benztropine
· Atropine
· Cimetidine
· Digoxin

Because of the number of different medications that may be the root cause of erectile dysfunction, ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any new medications and begin to experience dysfunction. They will more than likely change your prescription or adjust your dosage.

Trauma, injury, or surgery to the pelvic area or region may also be the cause of erectile dysfunction. Sometimes, after a surgery or injury, nerves that extend to the penis may become damaged. This in turn results in dysfunction. It is important to let your health care professional know if you are experiencing any impotence after surgery or injury.

Finally, erectile dysfunction may be caused by another underlying medical condition. Diseases such as Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Hardening of the Arteries, and various Thyroid Conditions may be the underlying cause of impotence. Men are also at greater risk of developing erectile dysfunction as
they age.

Questions And Answers About Erectile Dysfunction

Submitted By: Christopher H. Waters

Erectile dysfunction - What does it mean?

Erectile dysfunction is the inability of a man to achieve an erection and/or hold an erection enough for his sexual needs or the requirement of his copartner. ED is often called as impotence. The term "erectile dysfunction" means the inability to get erection, or the ability to achieve erection only for a short time. It can occur at any age, but is generally found in men over the age of 60.

Is erectile dysfunction just a part of old age?

Erectile dysfunction is nothing to do with older age. It is true that as you get older, you will need more physical or mental stimulation such as touching and stroking to get an erection. You might also need more time between erections.

What are the causes behind erectile dysfunction?

Erection needs a series of events. Erectile dysfunction occurs when any of the events is disturbed. Nerve impulses in the spinal column, brain, fibrous tissues, arteries in and around the corpora cavernosa, which make the series of events to occur. Injury to smooth muscles, nerves, arteries or fibrous tissue around the penis can result in erectile dysfunction.

Decreased level of testosterone hormone (The primary male hormone): Testosterone is the main male hormone. Around the age of 45, testosterone hormone level gradually falls. Approximately in 10% cases of erectile dysfunction doctors found decline in testosterone level. Decline in testosterone level results in lower sexual interest hence there will no erection.

Erectile dysfunction can also occur in people having following medical problems:

If you are a patient of diabetes and will not control your blood sugar level and blood pressure, you can get erectile dysfunction. That's why it is important to undergo treatment recommended by any health specialist.

Hormonal imbalance can also cause erectile dysfunction and if you feel so, visit an endocrinologist for needed test and treatment. Some medicines can also cause erectile dysfunction as a side effect, let your doctor know about your problem.

Smoking too much, use of alcohol in excess and use of drugs can also result in erectile dysfunction.

Psychological cause:

Conflict in your relations with your female partner can also cause erectile dysfunction. You must try to improve your relations and see your improved relationship is solving your sexual problem or not? Couples must try new ways to please each other and to show love and affection.

Treatment of erectile dysfunction:

First of all one should visit an urologist for proper diagnosis and treatment. Visit to a psychologist can also be helpful in erectile dysfunction.

Erectile Dysfunction: Treatment Options

by Tom Whitmall

Dysfunction can be an embarrassing and scary situation for any man to experience. Otherwise known as Impotence, Erectile Dysfunction occurs when a man fails to maintain or gain an erection. There are a number of reasons why men may experience this condition, and studies have shown that it isn't uncommon for Erectile Dysfunction to occur as men age. However, though it may be a passing phase or the result of anxiety or worry and clear up on its own, it is important to determine the underlying cause of the condition and have it treated.

First, it should be mentioned that 5% of 40 year old men have experienced the condition. This figure increases to nearly 25% of all men who are aged 65. Therefore, you should realize that this subject is one that your health care professional deals with regularly. You shouldn't feel embarrassed about speaking to your health care worker. Scheduling an appointment to discuss what you are experiencing is vital to finding the best treatment possible.

There are three components that must take place in order for a man to achieve and maintain an erection that results in ejaculation. First, the nerves that extend to the penis must be working properly and have no damage or scar tissue. Second, blood circulation to the penis must not be impeded.. Third, the brain must receive adequate stimulation. Therefore, your doctor will need to determine if the cause of the problem lies within these three areas. Once the cause has been determined, treatment may be prescribed.

Some causes of Erectile Dysfunction include drinking too much alcohol, being tired, stress, or depression. These issues will also need to be addressed and the appropriate change can be enacted to solve the problem. However, if there is an underlying medical condition, your health care worker may recommend that you see an urologist for further testing. Also, if it seems that your problem is emotional, stress, or anxiety related, your health care worker might recommend that you see a psychologist for treatment.

Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction may consist of drug therapy, lifestyle changes, herbal treatments, and behavior therapy, an apparatus such as a vacuum or pump, and surgery. Your urologist or physician will most likely start with the least invasive therapy and then progress to more invasive procedures if there is no response to other treatments. Sometimes, lifestyle changes are all that is needed to reverse the situation and end Erectile Dysfunction. Reducing stress, limiting alcohol, quitting smoking, eating a healthy diet and maintaining an active lifestyle may be very beneficial in ending ED. Sometimes, the problem may be linked to a medicine that a man is taking for another condition. Changing medication may be all that is required to combat the problem.

More serious treatments involve drug therapy or surgery. Some of the more popular drugs on the market today include Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis and these are all FDA approved. These drugs work by relaxing the muscles around the penis and increasing blood flow to the area. Natural solutions, sometimes called "herbal viagra" even though they are not made by Pfizer, are becoming more common and are actually surprisingly effective. Vacuums or pumps work by increasing the blood flow to the penis therefore enabling the man to achieve a stronger erection. In situations where nerves or arteries may have become damaged, surgery may be the preferred course of treatment. Surgery may include reconstructing the arteries to increase blood flow to the penis, or implanting a prosthesis that causes the penis to become erect. Finally, it is important to remember that most men will experience some form of Erectile Dysfunction throughout their life. If you find that you have been experiencing frequent dysfunction then you should schedule an appointment with your health care practitioner.
